George Douglas Wyatt
This was one of two very peculiar gravestones in which someone has placed a marker at the base of proporting an unusual statement.
I wrote the South park historical society concerning this, and this was their reply:
"McCurdy and Wyatt were school board members with a school that was on the Tarryall road out of Jefferson. In 1895 Ben Ratcliff, a local rancher, shot and killed them because he felt that they and others were spreading rumors about him and his children. Also, the school board would not allow him to borrow textbooks for his children. Ben was tried and hung in 1896. I have no idea who put the plaques on the tombstones."
