dm2

The basic ingredients for making a drum. Elk hide (the dark) and the lacing. Normally when I make a drum I will cut the lacing from the same hide as the one I use for the drumskin "top." But in this case I'm "testing" a drum making kit, and the provider prefers to supply cow rawhide for the lacing. It's quite a bit thicker than the Elk hide. I'm running a drum making workshop next month for a NYC based HMO that serves patients with HIV. I'll be teaching over 20 of their members how to make their own drums. I'm documenting making one step by step to do a "slide-show" for them when I do the workshop.
