Susie drawings from 2006 - ish 2
Holy Carp, these are ooooolllllld...
This was from the days when I drew Susie as she appeared in her original short subject Disney cartoon. As I drew Miss Little and Blue more and more often, I began to play around with the idea of anthromorphing her even further...to the point where she was almost human, but still retained her essential automotive features.
Using my filmstrip - like visual thinking process to hash it out, I mentally merged a picture of a grizzly bear in a rearing pose with Susie's physical features and bodywork....a grizzly bear is the first animal I thought to base her new human - like design off of bcuz grizzly bears are often associated with hugging, love, protectiveness, guardianship; just many positive things.
After my new concept of the little car took root and I began to run with it, the design I had in mind still had some tweaking to undergo, but my purpose has always remained the same - to remove more of the barriers that separate anthromorphed Cars from us human beings.
So, that's a brief history of how Susie's design evolved for me....altho, I'm now afraid that I've lost the knack for drawing her in the traditional Bill Peet/Disney style. I've tried to revert to that style once years ago with limited success. I suppose once she achieved such a high degree of anthropomorphism (as was automotively possible) there was no going back. And that was as much her decision as it was mine.
