I need help...

I'm beginning to hate reds!! I made these lovely apple shaped cupcakes, but photographing them was a nightmare. I can't make this look OK at all (in my opinion).

 

Does anyone have any advice on photographing reds and the best way to process them?

 

*Note* I have tinkered with the clarity, vibrance and saturation here.
