Here is the text seen at Jose Rizal's home in Calamba - "Jose Rizal was born in the bedroom of his parents, on the matrimonial bed. Here are the pieces of furniture that were sometimes found in the bedroom of couples who lived at the same time as the Mercados and whose station in life was similiar. The rack was for stacking pillows and at times also for mosquito nets and rolled woven mats. Then as now, many Filipino families kept religious images in the bedroom, specially those of the Crucified Christ, the Virgin Mary or of favourite saints. The industrious Don Francisco might have rested on a reclining chair after a long day at the field, while Dona Teodora said her prayers."
