reel seat replacement
Jeff and I bought these Phillipson fly rods around 1975. That was around the time that Phillipson went out of business and we got a good deal on the rods because or friend worked at a tackle shop. They're great rods, but the slip ring reel seats were always a PIA. They just didn't hold the reel very well. The reel would fall off when you were fishing. You had to set the drag tight enough to allow you to retrieve the reel from waste deep water by pulling on the line. Very annoying... The cork wound up getting all chewed up from trying to force the rings to get a better grip. The other day I finally took the matter into my own hands and installed some threaded reel seats. Purists will probably grouse at the fact that I modified a couple vintage rods... Oh well...
