Training Day
Sai Kung, Hong Kong: At this time of the year, coastal towns and villages around Hong Kong host dragon boat festivals. After work, teams train hard to become the fastest paddlers! My photo doesn't really represent the length of these simple teak boats. This sixteen-manner is probably around 10m long, but some boats can hold up to 80 paddlers! The chap in the green shirt at the back steers the boat whilst the girl up front beats a rhythmic drum, the bloke in front of her bellows instructions. On festival day the boats are decorated with carved dragon heads and other ornaments, but for training purposes these are removed.
