According to the MPAA Theatrical Market Statistics the average ticket price in 2009 was $7.50, a 4.4 percent increase from the previous year. The study goes on to say that, on average, a family of four could go to movies for under $50, but I believe the study only considers ticket prices. These combined with the cost of concessions and gas would definitely put the average price for a family of four over the 50 bucks mark.
