Photographed on the second day of Newport Bus running out to Underwood, having taken over the 64 from Stagecoach South Wales. Newport have replaced the 64 by extending their existing 21 from Ringland out to Underwood.
Along with the 64, the 74 (Newport -Caldicot - Chepstow) was also taken over from Stagecoach South Wales on Monday 21st July, resulting in Stagecoach withdrawing totally from the Newport to Chepstow corridor.
The town services in Monmouth and Chepstow are already under Newport's jurisdiction, as well as the 62 (Newport - Caldicot - Caerwent); the 63 (Cwmbran - Usk - Chepstow); and the 73 (Newport - Parc Seymour - Caerwent - Chepstow), making Newport Bus the dominant operator in this part of South East Wales.
It's great news for the communities in these areas that their services have been secured, and is great to see Newport expanding outside of the city boundary; however for the enthusiast it means less variety in this part of Wales.
Stagecoach South Wales used to run an eclectic mix of Darts (with a variety of bodywork); Optare Solo's; Volvo Olympians; the occasional MAN 18.220 and Volvo B10M-55/Alexander PS on the routes, whereas now we will have a more standard offering of Newport's Scania Omnicities & Enviro 200's running the services.
No.46 wears the latest version of the Newport livery, with the lighter and more pleasing shade of green.
