This 1/8 scale model was constructed in 1955 by the design team during development of the Aerotrain project at General Motors. Aerotrain was an experimental high speed, lightweight passenger train which used modified GM bus bodies for cars.
Two prototype train sets were built and leased for testing before the project was abandoned due to problems with the locomotive design and the train's rough ride. The model and one of the prototypes now reside at the National Railroad museum in Green Bay, WI.
