Election cookies 2011
Next Thursday, September 15th, there will be a general election in Denmark, and as I work as a secretary to one of the ministers (the political kind, not the clerical) I thought election cookies were in order.
I'll try to shortly explain the election system in Denmark, but please correct me if I write nonsense.
The general election is to find the members for the Danish parliament (Folketinget), where there are 179 seats, 90 mandates giving a majority.
There are nine different parties to choose between, and the voters can either vote for a party as a whole or for a candidate from a specific party. Each party has their own agenda on economics, welfare, education and so on, but have also pointed at one of two candidates they will support for the post as prime minister.
Those two candidates are the leaders of the two largest parties, and their blocs are called red or blue. As it stands now, the result will be very close, though the red bloc has a slight lead, but no one knows what the result will actually turn out to be, so it's very exciting. I won't know until late Thursday whether I'm to have a new boss.
The cookies are made with the logoes of the nine parties. Some where harder to make than others, and for most you might be able to guess whether they belong to the red or blue bloc just from the colours they use. I added a few pencils and crosses as we mark a cross on the ballot paper when we vote.
There is of course, a lot more to an election, but it's limited how much I can write here without everyone falling asleep before they've read it all, so I just hope this made sense :0)
