A little while ago, my mother and I went to see the house where her grandmother and grandfather (maternal) had lived until their death in 1979, and where my mother had spent almost all of her summers as a child (her mother, my grandmother, died when she was seven).
While there we got to talking to some people who were renovating the house, and they gave us some a bunch of old papers and letters they had found. My mother nearly cried when she recognized the handwriting as her grandfather's. In between there were also some old glass plate negatives, which I (with the help of snap-happy1 here on Flickr) managed to scan so we could view them.
Judging by their clothing, we think they're from the 30'ies but we can be wrong, and unfotunately my mother doesn't recognised anyone (she's from 1960).
We now think they must have belonged to the other family living in the same house.
They're still fun to look at though.
