it began

Flew into Charleston on a quiet Sunday night and ended up sleeping in the car at a grade crossing north of Buckhannon, WV. I knew there would be an A&O move called sometime "after midnight" to grab loads off the Beech Mountain Railroad at Alexander. Unfortunately for me, I awoke to a distant leslie an hour before sunrise. There was a good amount of fog and little cell coverage along the Cowen Sub - I had few options.

There are 3 active load outs that the A&O serves; loads off the BEEM being the only set of trains that see A&O power, making these moves special. Name another place in the States where a quad pack of geeps is in charge of a loaded coal train. This northbound load for Grafton is slowly passing thru Philippi, WV and its covered bridge. MOW forces are just beginning their day at the crossing behind me and have a couple extra toots handed their way from the coal train.
