You'd think being walking distance from this operation, that I would have done more with it in my 4+ years of living in the neighborhood. Well...that's not the case.
Until I scrolled through the hard drive, I honestly didn't even recall getting a GP15 on this job. Although the territory is rare, the photography is hardly even inspiring on the old B&OCT. My hometown railroad, but I'd say I have less than 10 encounters with them over the years.
What is also surprising is that with Chicago being the unquestioned railroad Mecca of the world, THIS spot is the location of Railroad Ave. Garfield St parallels the I-290 trench all through Oak Park, and once you get east of Austin Ave, it magically turns into Railroad Ave. It's only an 8 block stretch before the road feeds into north/south running Menard Ave. I'm figuring it obtained the name since there used to be a spur off the B&OCT that ran through the weeds off to the left.
