FAIL

A failure of epic proportions was had this past St. Patty's Day along the CP's C&M Subdivision. First off the 2-486 (pictured way in the background) was sitting north of Rondout without a crew for most of the morning. Next was the fact that CP was single tracking from Wadsworth to Sturtevant on account of some MOW guys. So essentially you have one main open between Rondout and Sturtevant.

 

Now it gets REAL interesting. After getting a crew just past noon, 2-486 was told to wait a few for some Metra traffic to clear at Rondout. After the commuter traffic cleared he was told to bring it down to Deerfield becuase the UP was single tracking on the Milwaukee Sub and there were 3 northbounds to get out of the way before he could move. Apparently there was a mixup in communication between the UP and CP because after a half hour or so 2-486 was told to bring it down to A-20 and he should have the light as the CP DS told 291 to hold up on the dump and let 2-486 go up. Well the UP couldn't squeeze a manuver like so and 2-486 was forced to block most of Northbrook for a good 15 minutes.

 

One of the more entertaining FAILs I've seen CP pull.
