Bicentennial Nights
On a warm, July evening in Kansas City, a number of us got together to photograph the newly-restored Milwaukee Road Bicentennial unit on display at Union Station.
This is SD40-2 no. 156, and it is owned by the Midwest Overland Rail Preservation Society, and the work was recently completed by Railway Service Contractors in Kansas City, KS, and it looks spectacular!
Fortunately, the iconic Western Auto sign was recently turned back on (there's been drama with it...) ahead of the World Cup, and speaking of which, just as we were taking these photos, the absolutely bonkers England-Mexico game was being played, with thousands of fans watching it nearby at the FIFA Fan Fest. After England's monumental 3-2 victory, the largely-Mexican fanbase was noticeably distraught on their way back to their cars here at Union Station.
