QUITE the Over-Under
Pulling into KC a few hours later than scheduled, the eastbound Chief ended up departing KCUS beneath the tail end of the massive Netherlands Oranje Walk through downtown Kansas City. Looking one block further west from the parade on Grand, you can see a streetcar passing overhead on Main St. as well! I was on the west side of the Grand Ave. bridge to photograph the parade, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to get this. For the record, that was NOT an easy walk over, haha!
The well-worn GE is riding out its last miles on a long-distance train before it is inevitably replaced by newer Siemens Chargers. The streetcar in the background is car no. 802, which is wrapped for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which is alongside the line's new UMKC extension. In coordination with one of their exhibits, the car's wrap is inspired by the Art Nouveau legacy of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha.
Regarding the Netherlands and their fan walk, they played at Arrowhead that evening against Tunisia, and beat them 3-1.
