Proper Flagless Repaint
Pulling west out of the Topeka, KS yard, Union Pacific's westbound KSNP manifest rolls by one of the massive grain elevators on the northwest side of town. This particular one is just east of Brickyard Rd., and US 75.
I was happy to get the 8523 on the point here, as it was one of a handful of units to get repainted in 2022 without the flag on the side, but WITH the big wings on the nose. Come on, UP. It's not that hard!
Another interesting note about the 8523 is that the unit that's now the 1996 (SP Heritage) HAD been the 8523 originally, although it was never in UP paint as such; only primer.
