When in Rome...

"You know they're switching up at Rome right now, right?" These were the words of a man who referred to himself as "Fox," who spoke with me as I was in South Haven, KS photographing the power there. "Uhh, no? Where is that, and how quickly can I get there," I replied?

Here, the EWLX 815, a 1963-vintage GP30 works its way back south to the elevator at Rome, KS after shoving a cut of cars up the Blackwell Northern Gateway Railway mainline to the north. This ex-ATSF line operates between Blackwell, OK and Wellington, KS, and the GP30 was built for the CNW, before going to the Fox River Valley & Western, and later the Wisconsin Central.

In talking with my dad, I honestly think that the last unrebuilt 30 I ever saw running outside of a museum WAS on the WC in Fon du Lac, WI in the late 90's. There certainly aren't many of them out there, let alone in WC paint.
