Pretty in Pink

Earwigs like to live in warm, moist environments usually under pots and mulch.

They are nocturnal feeding at night on small insects and vegetable matter.

This one was disturbed hiding under a pot and conveniently fell into a petunia flower. .

Lucky for me she was temporarily dazed before coming to her senses and scurrying back undercover. Just enough time for a quick click!

Did you know?

Earwigs are among the few non-social insects species that show maternal care.

Female earwigs are known to take extreme care of their eggs, and even after they have hatched as nymphs will continue to watch over offspring until their second molt. (they have around 5 molts in their lifetime usually 1 year).
