Alonso is wearing a one-off helmet he designed, wore for the Monaco Grand Prix, and then auctioned for charity.
This took a lot of wasted shots to get! If you look at this picture here you'll see that for most of the time the cars were behind a fence. Nothing that spoilt the spectacle, but not good for a photo. The only gap in the fence is not much bigger than the car itself. If I'd used a super quick shutter speed I would have captured the car without too much difficulty, but I wanted to show the wheels turning so had to use a slower shutter speed and track the car perfectly.
A further complication was that when the grandstand was full, the cars disappeared for a split second just before they reached this point, requiring me to anticipate when they would re-appear. Not easy at the speeds they travel!
