33029 Clapham Junction Monday 11 June 1979
33029 accelerates through Clapham Junction on a showery afternoon in June 1979.
Just as I remember. What wouldn't I give to see one in this condition and colour scheme now. This was a special treat from the parents for my 12th birthday - a day trip to London! The original plan was to get to Hither Green diesel depot but we were told there would unlikely be any decent photo opportunities so the parents endured 3 hours on the cold platform at Clapham! Brought up on 33/1s at Bournemouth, these were a novelty for me at the time. The day was showery but had cleared by the time 33029 came through at a rate of knots out of the curve on full power. Amazing sounds echoed through the roof and side as it passed. Earlier, 33003 was seen in the down direction covered in brake dust, and 33057 heading to the Capital. Not sure why these things left such an impression, nothing looked smarter than BR blue with a full set of black ploughs.. with those sharply angled blades, looked like they could do some real damage in snow drifts
