9/100 Oxford
For my Historical Hundred. This one is a bit tenuous but I need to make some progress with this project as the year is way more than 10% over :-)
Oxford was first settled in Saxon times, and was initially known as "Oxenaforda", meaning "Ford of the Ox". It began with the foundation of St Frideswide's nunnery in the 8th century. Buildings in Oxford demonstrate an example of every British architectural period since the arrival of the Saxons, including the iconic, mid-18th century Radcliffe Camera (Wikipedia), tagged above.
