Austrian Infantry Technical Company

In 1916 the pioneer platoon of each infantry battalion was expanded into a Technical Company (technische Kompagnie) of three 72-man platoons. Pioneers and sappers of the Infantry Technical Companies were equipped with searchlights, trench mortars, hand grenades, and portable flamethrowers.

These are pioneers of the Infantry Technical Company of Infantry Regiment No. 91. Two wear the M1915 field-gray service jacket (Waffenrock) with standing collar, while the rest are uniformed in the M1916 field-gray duty blouse (Einheitbluse) with stand-and-fall collar.

Most of the collars display the cherry-red facing stripes (Paroli) of the engineers and the metal pioneer badge consisting of a crowned anchor with an exploding grenade and lightning bolts.
