Flamethrower machine gunner

The flamethrower pioneer on the right wears his death's head sleeve badge at the top of his cuff, the position used to distinguish machine gunners from flamethrower operators.

This pioneer is also missing his left eye. Judging by photos, German troops rarely wore eye patches.

Often healed but quite gruesome eye injures are left uncovered.
