Assignment: Urban Shapes
This was a tough assignment for me. I am not completely sure what constitutes "urban shapes" and, living in a small town I am not sure that we have very many shapes!
This is a statue of Alexander Griggs. He is considered the "Father of Grand Forks". He was a steamboat captain, carrying cargo on the Red River of the North. In 1870 he (and his crew) was stranded when his ship was frozen into the ice of the river. They overwintered here and decided to found a town, hence Grand Forks was built. Griggs went on to serve in many capacities including mayor, postmaster, etc.
One of the Grand Forks peregrine falcon chicks this year was named Alexander in honor of Griggs.
