After reading Henry Louis Gates' book "Black in Latin America" I am more intrigued than ever about the racial mix all across the Amazon. This picture was taken West of Iquitos, Peru; in the Maranon River. I was told that many of them were descendants of slaves that had worked in Peruvian silver mines.
