2004 McLaren-Mercedes MP4-19

Pictured is a 2004 McLaren-Mercedes MP4-19 Grand Prix Car. The car is painted in 2005 McLaren livery which featured on the MP4-20.

Driven in 2004 by David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen it was billed as a 'debugged' version of the unraced MP4-18 of 2003.

The original MP4-19 was campaigned for the first half of 2004 without success. Raikkonen retired from the first three races of the season, finished eighth at Imola, eleventh in Spain, retired in both the Monaco and European Grands Prix before finishing fifth in Montreal and sixth at Indianapolis.

Coulthard, in his ninth and final season at McLaren, finished eighth at the opening race in Australia and followed that with sixth in Malaysia. After suffering three retirements in the next five races he followed team-mate Raikkonen home in both Canada and the United States Grands Prix, finishing in sixth and seventh positions respectively.

For the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours (Round 10) a revised MP4-19B was introduced and showed a better turn of speed.

Coulthard qualified the MP4-19B third for it's first race and would score points on four occasions with the new car with a season's best result of fourth in the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

Raikkonen had a much better time and would score four podium finishes. He finished second in the British Grand Prix, third in China and second in the final race of the season in Brazil.

The highlight of the season, however, was a victory in the Belgian Grand Prix, Raikkonen holding off Michael Schumacher to claim one of only three races not won by the dominant Ferrari team all season.

At the end of the season, the McLaren drivers would finish seventh (Raikkonen) and equal-ninth (Coulthard) in the championship, McLaren as fifth best constructor.

The actual 2005 version was driven by Raikkonen, Juan-Pablo Montoya, Pedro de la Rosa and Alexander Wurz. McLaren would win a total of ten races (seven for Raikkonen and three for Montoya) to finish second in the Constructors Championship.
