special moments

When you do wildlife photography, every once in awhile, if you are really lucky, you will have a special encounter with an animal or bird that is a little more extraordinary than others.

Instead of running, or flying off because of your presence, like they would normally do, for whatever reason they seem just fine with your presence and allow you to get up closer than usual without showing any signs of fear.

Last week I posted a picture of a little Red-crowned Kinglet that I'd seen flitting around in what was left of the tomato plants.

I managed to click off a few shots of him, but he was very skittish, and when I tried to move around to the other side of the garden area to get better light on him, he flew off

So, when I saw this little Yellow- crowned Kinglet in the tomatoes yesterday, I was very cautious when approaching with the camera. I didn't want to spook him.

It turns out, I didn't need to worry!

This little guy was amazing!

If I didn't know any better, I'd have sworn he was tame!

He didn't care that I was there, he didn't care that I was leaning right over him in the tomato patch, he didn't care when I got down on my hands and knees with the 100mm.fixed macro and tried getting close ups of him!

If I'd have put my finger up under his breast, I swear he'd have jumped up on it!

He spent a couple of hours hopping around out there on the plants before taking off!

It was a wonderful visit and made my day!
