Perceptual understanding

This image is an experiment. When walking through the botanical gardens in sheffield, Hannah proclaimed this bush the pinkest thing she had ever seen. To which I said "which bush?". To her there was no way you could not see this: it was the most salient thing in her field of view. As a colour blind person, the bush was still pretty, but not nearly so striking. This is an attempt to understand each others perception. On the top left is the original image. The image in the top right is a simulation of what those of us with red/green colour-blindness see: I can assure you I see no difference between these images, where as hannah tells me its as though someone had switched the bush off. The images below are 'value inversions' of the ones above - dark is made light and vice-versa. The pink bush definitely does stand out to me in the bottom left, and I can also appreciate the change to the bottom right where i can see the bush blends into the background more than on the right.
