Lost in St Leonards
what cannot be seen - anonymous
This is an ongoing postal photography project. I mail matchbox pinhole cameras loaded with photographic paper to participants, inviting them to photograph 'what cannot be seen'. The cameras are then returned to me to be processed, accompanied by an explanation of what the participant has photographed.
"I've had a relationship with DF118s (codeine painkillers) since I was hospitalised a few times in the 1990s for treatment for a long term illness. Hospital can be very boring, especially if you're spending 20 hours a day alone in a room with four TV channels and a bowl to be sick in. I guess it's hardly surprising that people turn to the readily available drugs for some relief from the boredom.
I get these painkillers from my GP. He thinks I have sciatica. The previous GP thought I had post-operative complications that required strong pain relief. I like to mix up the reasons when I change GPs, it keeps it interesting. They don't check, my medical file is the size of a phone book. Who has the time to read that?"
