Ol' Yaller IX
One of a series of Buick powered race cars built and campaigned by Max Balchowsky in the late 1950's to mid 1960's. This one is Ol' Yaller IX. One website claims this car had a 427 cubic inch Ford engine. I firmly believe this claim to be incorrect. Every photo I have ever seen of the car shows a Buick engine. Accounts of the Ol' Yaller series of cars never mention Ford power. Check the header pipe configuration. Buick is the only engine with the center two exhaust ports separated wider than the others. I shot this at the Santa Barbara Road Races, California in 1965 or 66.
