Excavated 17th Century cottage, Pendle
Forget the recent press speculation about the "discovery" of this ruin, there is nothing mysterious about this 17th Century cottage in the shadow of Pendle Hill in Lancashire - It was well known and documented and only abandoned some 50 years ago when an overflow to a nearby reservoir was built dangerously close to it. – It was fascinating to see such a structure given the full professional archaeological excavation treatment though – especially as we live in a very similar cottage. Sadly the recording of this site is a condition prior to it being removed altogether during forthcoming construction work.
Note: this is an active work site and the ruins and access to them are private property and permission must be sought before entering.
