SBF April-May 1977 Cover - School Bus History
Cover of the April-May 1977 issue of School Bus Fleet, featuring a trio of Thomas Built Buses - a rear engine Saf-T-Liner "pusher", a Mighty Mite Type B and a conventional. It was an important time in school bus history with the implementation of six new federal bus construction standards - which covered roof stregenth, fuel system integrity, joint stregenth, seating, braking systems and the size of emergency exits.
I remember riding in buses with the high seat backs a couple of years after this so it took time for buses with these standards to get into fleets.
