Grandma's back in town
This cartoon collection is entitled 'The Famous Giles Family', Grandma is looking up at the window of the office where Giles drew his wonderful cartoons. Note the padlock on her handbag and the motoring goggles.
Back in position today, the statue has been in store all summer whilst Giles Circus has been improved with more public space around the statue. That's council speak for reducing the roadway available for vehicular traffic and increasing the paved area for pedestrians. There will also be seating provided around the plinth for those of us who like to have a quiet sit down and watch the world go by. So that's OK.
It was originally unveiled by Warren Mitchell in 1993.
