An old hare shot, just to prove to myself they're not mythical beings. I've been trying to photograph them all year with nothing to show, what was a small population anyway now seems to be almost gone, just two far away sightings in 2013. This was taken elsewhere though, one of those rare and magical moments when a hare runs right up to you, my favourite animal in the world. Before I got into photography I'd watch the hares here every day, I'll never forget the horror of coming back to the car in 1999 to find these scumbags setting up a hare coursing ' event '. Back then it was legal but I regularly saw these idiots in the fields with lurchers targetting the hares after it was banned. Of course it's still perfectly legal to shoot and snare these enigmatic and magical animals, there's not even a closed season; I find it appalling when people refer to them as ' game ' animals. I got into photography in the first place to photograph the hares I was watching, god knows what I'd have thought if I knew that four years later I'd only have half a dozen decent pictures of them ! When I first got into photography I was trying and failing to shoot hares and foxes and it was so demoralising, if I hadn't found Flickr I'm sure I would've given up : ) Gotta stop waffling on I know....
