1964-66 GT40 Mk I; 289 cu in V8, 87 built
1966 GT40 Mk IIA; strengthened for 427 cu in V8, 8 built
1967 GT40 Mk IIB; 427, 8 built, new body.
1967 GT40 Mk III; 289 cu in V8, 7 built, road version with quad headlamps
1967 GT40 Mk IV; 427, 12 built, streamlined shape, lighter J chassis.
1969 GT40 Mk V; 40 built by JW Automotive, using up remaining parts
The Mk I met with little success in its initial tune for the 1964 and 1965 Le Mans. Due to the change of rules, the 427 wasn’t allowed to race in 1968. After modifications to the 289 Mk I by J.W. Automotive, this car, chassis no 1075, won Lemans in 1968 (Rodriguez and Bianchi) and 1969 (Jackie Icyx and Jackie Oliver) .
