Surface Disruption
Charcoal drawing (135cms x 85cms) on watercolour paper underlaid with various other papers (brown wrapping paper, cartridge paper, black tinted paper, soft cardboard, tissue paper etc.)
The surface of the paper has been drawn with charcoal, torn, cut into, etc. exposing the underlaid papers.
The drawing is based upon the activities of land artists (Robert Smithson, Michael Heizer etc.) where the surface of the earth was used to create art work.
The disruption of the surface
Scoop out and drag debris all over the place
Excavations of the surface form shapeless mounds of debris
debris has its own properties and grandeur
Cracked broken and shattered
Fragmentation, erosion, decomposition
Deposits of waste
Abstract geology
Displacement of the surfaces materials
The surface can never be returned to its original state
The residue is still retained on the surface
Irreversibility
