Deep Forest

A photograph of the Jamison Valley in the Blue Mountains, taken on the occasion of my trek to the mountains in May of this year (2026), with 30 schoolgirls aged 18 (in their final year of high-school).

The coach dropped us off on the northern side of the valley near Echo Point (depicted above) and we walked across the valley along the tree-fern lined Federal Pass to the 'Ruined Castle', a rocky outcrop that rises above the canopy of eucalytus trees, for lunch, and then on to Mount Solitary (visible in the distance in the above image) for afternoon tea with the rock wallabies, echidnas, and a squadron of native birds. We even saw a Powerful Owl - during the day!! And a platoon of red-tailed Black Cockatoos flew over Mount Solitary. On the return hike we saw Lyrebirds in the rainforest.

Just for once the girls were actually motivated to take out their Apple earbuds, stop listening to Tik Tok videos, and check out the Australian scenery, lol. It was a revelation!!

We descended into the valley, and then out of the valley, via the Golden Staircase, which was an absolute killer - notably the return trek, lol. See:
