"Not only does the City of Portland Archives have a huge image collection and map collection that includes the gems above from the HAP collection, there are also a number of HAP scrapbooks. Now the Oregonian from the 1940s is key word searchable on a free database via. the County Library but I don't recall seeing this article. Plus the scrap books include DJC and Oregon Journal articles that are harder to locate. This is an image from inside the Guild's Lake Commercial building. Not all of the five centers lasted through the 1946 tare downs. But after the Memorial Day Flood at Vanport in May 1948 the Guild's Lake Courts Community was once again bursting with a new influx of children. So I can't tell what these numbers are tracking if these are unique children or if this is a total from the daily door count. Guam Street was in the Black section of the project with a total of 5,800 children, Gona Street 3,400 children, Guild's Street 1,700 children."
