The Dark Knight: Fallen Son #5
This fool is trigger-happy. Extremely trigger-happy. A penny drops, he unloads five bullets at it’s position. I make a creak on one of the old beams and sure enough, he unloads five bullets at the position. He’s trigger-happy but he’s also obsessive on being precise. He knows exactly how many bullets it would take to break the standard police Kevlar vest. Three to break through the vests padding, one well placed bullet to make the kill, a fifth bullet just to guarantee the kill. Unnecessary if done well, but that tells me enough.
It tells me he’s not completely confident of his own firing abilities. Enough to be sure that he’ll hit the target but not enough to guarantee a kill on the fourth shot. I know for a fact that his machine gun has 25 bullets per clip. He’s unloaded three waves of bullets and thus fifteen bullets. He’s got ten more possible shots. Just need to divert his attention and strike. Fortunately I’ve got just the thing. An idea Dick to distract enemies.
A Bat-arang as he likes to call them. One specifically designed to emit a sonic screech similar to what a bat would make. The perfect distraction.
I throw one and he’s too busy looking up to try and spot me that it manages to slip past him. Rookie mistake. He’ll pay dearly for that.
I activate the screech from my belt and as to be expected he covers his ears and unloads the remnants of his clip into the wall to try and silence the noise. A fools errand. The bullets won’t make a dent in the custom titanium alloy, and unfortunately for him my cowl filters out the screech. I descend from my perch and strike. An uppercut straight in to his jaw makes him lose his footing and causes him to drop the gun.
Excellent. Disarmed I hold the advantage. Or so I thought.
“Oh look at that. The bat keeps an ace up his sleeve. Well, two can play that games batty boy!”
He forces his left arm down and out of the sleeve comes a small pocketknife. Great. He’s one of those. I should have known from the fact that he happily pealed Commissioner Loeb on live television, laughing. What the hell is wrong with this guy? I dodge to avoid the blade and go to make a jab into his side he manages to gain the advantage by slicing upwards. The blade manages to pierce the suit on my right arm and sends me back.
Christ that hurt.
The blade must be sharp if it managed to pierce the suit. I guess that’s the contingency in the event of a loss of firearm. The whole suit is a reinforced Kevlar polymer, far stronger than the average police bulletproof vest. The fact that the blade can cut it is astounding. I need to study it to refine the suit. But before I can do that, first of all I need to take down this psycho.
He’s got the blade above his head. Indicative of a killing slash. I wouldn’t worry usually, but given the fact that this blade can cut my suit I need to act. I get off the floor and back on my feet. The blade is coming in fast. I raise my right arm and charge it straight towards the blade. It probably looks to him like I’m trying to beat his blade with shear brawn.
I’m not that stupid. But as long as he thinks I am I shall use that to my advantage.
Just as the blade is about to collide with my glove I move. His momentum off balances him and I take this opportunity to grab the blade. The force of the blade being ripped from his grip pulls him towards me. Unfortunately for him my left fist is there to greet him as he connects with it head on.
Good.
The fact that he was unable to keep hold of the blade tells me enough about him. His appearance may look intimidating but really he’s just an average man with a white face and green hair. Nothing special about him. Not physically anyways. Psychologically I can’t vouch for as much. No ordinary man would happily mutilate the police commissioner on live television. One thing I can’t help but notice though as he goes flying off in to a crate is the white colour on my gloves. Is that makeup?
