Dec. 21, 2011 HMAS CHOULES passes North Head - Ross Gillett.
5364. A massive and urgently-needed addition to the RAN's amphibious heavy lift capability HMAS CHOULES [ex-RFA LARGS BAY] will dominate the ships sky-line at Garden Island until the two 27,851 tonne [30,700 short tons] Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Docks come into service over the next several years. HMAS CHOULES is just six years old, but has had less than that time in service after being laid up for some time.
We had a recent series of images from Ian Johnson of this big and interesting-looking ship in Fremantle, where she was formally commissioned into the RAN on Dec. 13, 2011. Those photos began at pic NO. 5306, here:
