Her dark, streaked hull looking disreputable beside the gleaming new Battle Class destroyer HMAS ANZAC [II], the Q Class HMAS QUADRANT awaits her frigate conversion at Williamstown Naval Dockyard in Melbourne.
QUADRANT had been towed from Sydney down to Williamstown by the heavy cruiser HMAS AUSTRALIA [II] in February 1950, and she would be recommissioned as a Type 15 fast anti-submarine frigate on July 16, 1953. As previously mentioned, however, HMAS QUADRANT's hull and machinery would prove to be tired, and she was laid up only four years later, well ahead of her sister ships. She was sold to the Japanese company Kinoshita for scrapping in 1963.
