Current and Recent RAN Ships, by Glenn Crouch: No. 12, HMAS ADELAIDE [II].
2393. It is January 2008, and the de-commissioned Oliver Hazard Perry Class missile frigate HMAS ADELAIDE still rests amid the fleet at Garden island, Sydney.
One of two ships sacrificed to off-set the cost over-runs of a troubled modernisation program for the remaining four RAN vesels of this class, ADELAIDE was sunk as a dive wreck off the Central NSW Coast town of Terrigal in 2011.
The vessels around her here are dressed ship - possibly a hangover for the Australia Day holiday on January 26.
