This animation shows how the oceans opened, as seen from the Pacific.
I have placed the complete crust on a flat piece of paper. Marked out the continents, then all I do, is to open up the oceans!
The continental fit in the Atlantic is obvious. But the continents also fit on the other side of the globe. However this fit difficult to recreate. This attempt is in no way perfect, but as good as I could in one hour, using a flat clay piece to represent the continents of the Earth which covered the whole spherical surface at the time. As a consequence, the Northern continents are strongly deformed. This is not important, because my ai.m is to show the principle of how the continents broke apart in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Not in detail, but as a principle, the topology is correct.
