Newton's Private Papers
This is Silver Dawn Books’ contribution to World Science Day on August 25th.
Many people are perplexed about gravity, of course. We all understand it at one level – we can all fall over, for example. But do we always know why? Do we understand the mechanics? This book is an attempt to explain the ins and outs, the ups and downs of Newton’s work.
Partly of course the lack of understanding is our fault. But Newton didn’t help by writing in Romanesque, which even then no one understood, not even Newton. QED. So this book is an attempt to see through the language problem by using Newton’s own notebooks. In English.
When we took the idea to the clever folk at Mighty Field of Vision Productions they came up with the idea of symbolising the seeing-through-ness of the project by having a see through book. A la Borges, perhaps. But that would have been too expensive and so we had to limit them to a see-through cover.
Then over to all the compos, pressmen and binders at The Red Cat Press. We’d like to say a big thanks to them all. THANKS.
