This exhibition takes its name, Hiraeth, from a Welsh word meaning homesick or a longing for a place that does not exist. With curator Rhiannon MacFadyen (also a part of the collective and exhibit), artists explore this longing for home in diverse, personal ways using an array of mediums. From black and white photographs of former slave quarters to shrines made of suitcases honoring passed loved ones, these works remind us of the array of African American arts in San Francisco and what would be lost if these artists are forced to live and create elsewhere.
