Who Wants to be the Same as Everybutterfly Else?

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”

— Henry David Thoreau, Walden (1854)

It was my birthday in September, and a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions.

Amongst the treasures I was given were some beautifully delicate laser cut butterflies made of thin bleached paper, and affixed to one of my gifts was a dainty butterfly clip with transparent pink and purple fabric wings. Yesterday I decided to put them all together in a flat lay on a black backing board and photograph them. I think they make for quite a striking minimalist image. I hope that you like it too.
