Onions are one of my biggest staples. Nearly every meal I cook begins with sauteeing or roasting an onion (or several).
The smell of cooking onions is like a homing smell. It says life goes on. It says that someone is home making food. It says that no matter what else happens in the world, as long as we are still chopping and cooking onions it's probably all going to be alright.
Onions also happen to be healthy for you unless you are allergic to them.
I think some people consider them peasant food.
