Tolworth Station, May 11th 2022

Situated on the Chessington branch Tolworth currently has a half hourly service to London Waterloo calling at all stations using Class 455 units. As with the other stations on the branch it is built to an Art Deco design using concrete and as such is quite unusual in its design which is down the fact that the branch didn't open until 1938 with the Chessington stations opening a year later. This was the final line to be built by the Southern Railway and was intended to continue to Leatherhead via new stations at Malden Rushett and Ashtead North but the outbreak of the second world war put the plan on hold and after the war Green Belt legislation meant the line was not extended beyond a half mile shunt at Chessington South.
